Exit N64 with Nvidia Controller

I am having an issue when I try to exit Nintendo 64 games, when I try to hit Select/play on my controller it only changes controller set up to "golden eye / original" it takes several attempts... Any solution for this issue?

Try pressing Play and while keeping it pressed, press Back

Assuming that you mapped Play to START and Back to SELECT.
