ShieldTV - Save state shortcuts don't work

For the entirety of the time I've had RetroX, the save state shortcuts have never worked for me. By that, I mean the "Start + L2" / "Start + R2" message that pops up when loading the game.... those keypresses don't work. Pressing the green button and then saving works great, but not the shortcuts.

Is it just me? Do they work for everyone else?

Instead of pressing them at the same time, try pressing START, and while the button is pressed, press L2, then release START.
Having both being pressed at the same time can be a bit tricky
