Dreamcast games/emu won't load

Postby TheLastTimeLord » Sat May 13, 2017 7:28 am

Hi all.

I can't seem to get Dreamcast games to start up. When I select to play a game the screen clears to the retrox wallpaper and does nothing else. Eventually, a couple of minutes after, I get a message saying the app is not responding and do I wish to close it or continue to wait. Chosing either does nothing but give me the wallpaper screen again. I have to hit the home button and go back into retrox that way to clear it.

Appreciate any ideas or help I could get. Thanks

Edit, after leaving it as is for maybe 15 minutes, my Shield TV just rebooted. And is stuck in booting up

It looks like a problem with your device and/or storage

If the device is stuck booting up and you are using any external storage I would try removing it. Read/Write errors can cause those kind of problems.

Yes, I do have the roms on a USB stick. This hasn't caused a problem for the other systems as yet. I'll try out moving them over and see if that makes a difference

The boot problem was a one-off though. The trouble starting Dreamcast games continues.

Some people have reported issues when the game media is zipped. If you have them zipped, try with them unzipped.

Yep, that was it exactly! The files were zipped, so unzipped and they work a treat now. Thanks so much! Love your work :D

Hello. Here's my issue: I've added a Dreamcast game, and when I hit "play," I get the start-up Dreamcast swirly dot screen, followed by the bouncy Play, Music File, and Settings screen. When I hit "play" there, it goes to a completely white screen, only to return to the previous screen with the Play, File, Music, and Settings screen, and goes no further. Please help. Thanks!

That's the BIOS menu for a NON-Dreamcast disk. It thinks that you have put a CD-Audio.

Can you give more details (or links) about the game that you were trying to play?

I tried loading up some dreamcast games and I just get a black screen. Anyone else get this?
