Dreamcast games/emu won't load

Just in case, can you try copying one game (all their files) to your internal storage?

Ok. So I copied 2 games over to my internal storage.

GAME 1 (a .cdi game)
GAME 2 (a .gdi game)

Game 1 (.cdi) loads up fine. No issues.
Game 2 (.gdi) doesn't load up at all. Suffers from the same error that I've had earlier and mentioned in this thread.

It seems games being local or external makes no difference and isn't part of the issue. It basically seems that .cdi games are working and .gdi (and it's bin files) are not working. I've tested 15 .gdi games on local or external drive. They all have the same issue and don't work.

I have tested 2 .cdi games on local or external drives. They've all worked.

So it seems it's something to do with the file types. So I'm not sure if the emulator has an issue with .gdi & bin files? or if all the games I have that are .gdi based all have some kind of fault.

I only use GDI files so there should be a difference.
Have you modified the file names in some way? The GDI file is just a text file with the names of the additional files required, if you rename them, they will not be found.

Nope, haven't modified them.

The only thing I did was unzip the files then made a folder to put all the files in for each game. Then named that folder the same name as the .gdi file.

I've attached a couple of pics. One of my gdi and bin file for one game and a pic of the .gdi file open. Hopefully that may help?

I decided to try these Roms locally on my PC on Reicast (via a old build of Retroarch) and most of the (.gdi) games loaded up fine on the Reroarch version of Reicast.

So I've got no clue what the problems is. Is it the Shield, the emulator or something else? Or if I should just only use .cdi based Dreamcast games on RetroX as they're the only ones that seem to load.

In your case, I would use the CDI files.
I have a Shield as well and have only GDI files, there must be a difference but I ran out of ideas.

The same here, *.cdi works well, *.gdi not.

what does log trace do? I read that link but don't really understand it

When an error happens, the cause is registered in the device, internally. You can access that info through the "adb" tool from a computer. If the emulator is throwing an internal error, or if RetroX isn't giving it the right files, it all will be visible in that register.
