Might I get an update on whether things worked out for you? Asking because I faced similar issues in the past but never got the chance to post about it on here!
I wonder where we're at with this about now. Couldn't seem to find a Linux version online currently so I suppose there may have been some hindrances. I'm only asking for the fun of being able to run a retro game emulator, originally on Android, in a Ubuntu VM running on Windows!

If it isn't the TV's post-processing, maybe it could be something as simple as how far the controller is from the device. It may sound obvious, but perhaps try moving the controller closer and seeing if that helps at all.
