Original system controller button overlay

Postby robj80 » Fri Dec 22, 2017 3:17 am

I been playing alot of games on different systems. All on my Nvidia shield controller. My problem is that the game tells me to use X B A Y square circle triangle or whatever button. Sometimes you need to push the exact button at the right time. I can't ever remember what button is what on the system I am using.

Any way there can be an option to have a small overlay of the controller on the screen that will show the original systems button configuration? One of the psx games did this by default and boy did it make using the shield controller alot easier to use.

Hope this makes sense. Kind of hard to explain.

The explanation is right.

I think this is a struggle that any player has with the different controllers available on the real consoles. I think I can add an option to enable the same overlay that is visible to the users with touchscreen devices. Would it help?

Not sure what the touchscreen ones look like but anything would help.

In the Gamepad Settings, select the Touchscreen option and you will see it

I finally got around to trying this. When I select the touchscreen option I am not able to use the controller. Now if I was able to use the controller and have the buttons on screen, I think this would work. I only tried genesis so far. Not sure how gamepads with much more buttons would work.

Thanks

All emulators have overlays.

But can I get the overlay and still use my Nvidia controller? Doesn't seem possible. Unless I am doing it wrong.

It's impossible until I add the option to do that.
If the user has a physical controller, the touchscreen controls are hidden automatically. I would have to add an option to keep them visible if the user request it, but that will need a lot of changes in the emulators :-(

I cannot say when I would be able to do it.

No worries then. I was hoping this was more something that was already there and could be activated. I will just have to learn all the buttons for all the systems.
