People have meticulously made thousands and thousands of achievements for classic games. They add a lot of life to some of the classics.
Currently they have their own emulators, BUT, Retroarch found a way to integrate their cores to work with the website (On Retroarch you just click to enable and enter in your login info). Don't know how difficult it would be but since they have the database going implementing it sounds pretty win-win.

Re: [REQUEST] Retro Achievement Integration
I actually was curious and see you joined
They have a regular and 'Hardcore' mode. Regular lets you earn achievements just playing however. Hardcore turns off save states so that may be an issue but I'm not sure. There are two of every achievement most of the time, a regular and hardcore one. So even without Hardcore mode you'd sill be able to get them.
Everything though is tracked on the website so that's nice.
