CHD file extension support?

Postby Cee123 » Sun Jun 30, 2019 5:12 am

Hi there,

Just wondering why there is no CHD file extension support for the following systems: Sega CD, PSX and 3DO, as in they do not show up in the game list after scanning. Is there any plan to implement alternative file extensions within RetroX? I noticed PBP are supported for Playstation and CHD is supported with Dreamcast (but still has some issues).

I think it would be awesome because, with Android, most of us can really only use an SD card for storage. With CHD file extensions, it shrinks down the size of your regular ISO or Dreamcast GDI into a more compact size. And from what I've found is that Libretro have already implemented that feature with the systems I've mentioned above.

Since CHD extension is supported by most retroarch emulators nowadays. Probably the underlying emulators on RetroX need to be updated.

Well looks like CHD files for dreamcast don't work either. Unlike the others they display in the list of scanned roms but they just go straight to a black screen.

I made this request months ago as well. Looking forward to it being implemented to save space on my memory card.

Yeah I don't get it. This has been a feature on libretro for a while now. Apparently retroX uses the retroarch emulators so I was surprised when none of my CHD files for psx, Sega CD, dreamcast etc were recognised or just didn't work. But PBP files for psx both display and work and CSO files for PlayStation portable.

Once the developer finds one thing that works the updates tend to stop for a core. It really should not be difficult to just add the updated retroarch core for these systems. All I have to do for retroarch is update the core. And with the newest theme for retroarch it is almost as easy to use as retrox.

I really hope the CHD file support for psx, 3DO, sega CD, dreamcast, PC engine CD etc will be in the next version. Because that feature is already part of most retroarch cores.

Retrox generally uses quite old cores, and they rarely get updated.

Noticed the developer has not commented on this feature.

I could send him/or anyone a sample/couple of CHD files for Dreamcast, PSX, Sega CD, 3DO (or even Sega Saturn) if they are willing to test it out.

Just saves a hell of a lot more space on whatever storage you're using.
