"Flat" render option doesn't work very well

RetroX is default to "Normal" render but it looks somewhat softened:

I selected the "Flat" option instead, which looks better in my opinion, image detail is better:

It works with SNES and PSX but it doesn't work very well with with NES and N64, on NES the screen turns black while on N64 parts of the image get black like on this picture taken with my phone:

My Android TV device is the Ematic Jetstream, it has the same hardware specs as the Mi Box and Mi Box S but it has two USB ports and one ethernet port. It's on Android 9 as well.
